The Sex Pistols - God Save the Queen

Key: none (it’s an old punk song for fuck’s sake)

Pennywhistle Key: D

Timing: no one cares

Tabbed by Goodbar.

i’ve always thought it’d be cool to play this song on the tin whistle with some cool ornamentation and shit. but i suck, so i thought i’d just rip off some guy’s guitar tab and change it to whistle tab and pass it off as my own work. so here it is......

Intro (all of the notes are on the high octave):

G# // A    A    A    A    A    A                              2x

o       o     x     x     x     x     x

x       o     x     x     x     x     x

x       o     x     x     x     x     x

x       o     x     x     x     x     x

G# // A    A    A                    2x

o       o     x     x

x       o     x     x

x       o     x     x

x       o     x     x

G# // A    A    A    A    A    A                              1x

o       o     x     x     x     x     x

x       o     x     x     x     x     x

x       o     x     x     x     x     x

x       o     x     x     x     x     x

Part 1 (main riff):

A ~     D    D    D    C#  D    D^

x         o     o     o     o     o     o

x         x     x     x     o     x     x

o         x     x     x     o     x     x

o         x     x     x     o     x     x

o         x     x     x     o     x     x

o         x     x     x     x     x     x

Part 2:

i don’t know how to illustrate the tab so i’ll try to explain it in words...

this is what it looks like on guitar:

e|-------------------|
B|-------------------|
G|--1/2--2--2--2--2--| (a few times)
D|--1/2--2--2--2--2--|
A|--0/0--0--0--0--0--|
E|-------------------|

so the root is always A. the 1’s and 2’s are Eb and E. so it makes sense that you would play an Eb and slur it to a few E’s. for those of you who don’t know, the E is when you cover all the holes but the bottom one, and an Eb is where you cover all of the holes except for!
  half of
the bottom one (that’s what i couldn’t illustrate). so do this while blowing hard to hit the high octave.

basically you just play the intro, then go into a pattern where you play part 1 a few times followed by part 2 a couple of times. that’s pretty much the whole song without the solo. the notes are all the roots of the guitar chords played (accept for the C#)

//      =       slur

~       =       sometimes play it as one long note and sometimes do it as 8 quick notes

^       =       not quite the right note i guess, but you can’t really reproduce the same thing on the tin whistle so it works (on guitar it’s an open D and G played as a chord. the D is the bass note so that’s what i tabbed it as)
